Jesus Carries the Cross
The soldiers forced Jesus into the street. They laid a heavy wooden cross on his shoulders and made him carry it. On the way, Jesus met his Mother Mary. May felt very sad to see her beloved son suffer so much, yet she knew God had allowed this, in order for Jesus to save the whole world. She and Jesus looked at each other with great love and tears in their eyes. Then the guards pushed him on his way.
Because Jesus was so weak, he fell down. The soldiers made Simon, a man in the crowd, help carry Jesus’ cross to Calvary, where Jesus would be killed. As they walked on together, they passed some women, who were crying for Jesus. Jesus told them, “Do not weep for me. Weep instead for yourselves and for your children. If these things happen to me, what will happen to you?”
