“Not everyone who cries … ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of Heaven”

FRONT ROYAL, Va. (ChurchMilitant.com) – Christendom College honored Cdl. Gerhard Müller during their baccalaureate service Friday and had him give the commencement speech on Saturday.

The prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith told the 109 graduates of the Catholic college in Front Royal that everyone will be judged at the end of their life but not everyone will go to Heaven. All people, said the cardinal, “[M]ust give a reckoning to Him, who will judge every man on the last of days.”

He continued, “Not everyone … who confesses ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of Heaven; but those who do the Father’s will, by taking a strong grip on the work at hand.”

The devoutly Catholic college honored the cardinal with an honorary doctorate just before his commencement address on Saturday. The Vatican’s highest teacher, next to the pope, offered the Baccalaureate Mass on Friday and mingled with faculty, students and families gathered there over the weekend.

During his address, which focused on Christian anthropology, Cdl. Müller urged those present to give witness of their Christian love by their words and deeds. “The Father wills that, in all men, we recognize Christ our brother and love Him effectively in word and in deed,” said Cdl. Muller.

He ended his speech with the following words:

By thus giving witness to the Truth, we will share with others the mystery of the heavenly Father’s love. As a consequence, men throughout the world will be aroused to a lively hope, the gift of the Holy Spirit, that someday at the last, they will be called up in peace and utter happiness to that fatherland radiant with the glory of the Lord. The summary of all natural and Christian anthropology is to say ‘dare to be great’ in the grace of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Christendom likewise honored Mary Ellen Bork, wife of the late Justice Robert Bork, with the St. Catherine of Siena award. Bork spoke on what the award meant to her:

We, too, are standing against today’s forces of dissolution, and we will have many opportunities to encourage peaceful solutions to problems whether they be familial, political or societal, knowing that we are rooted in Christ and in the treasures of the Catholic tradition. … As Catherine famously said, ‘Be all that you can be, and you will set the world on fire.’

Meanwhile twelve other “Catholic” colleges invited abortion activists to give the commencement addresses at their institutions. This group included pro-abortion politicians, one dissenting priest and advocates for same-sex marriage.
